Case Study: Dogmate

I created this app as apart of my Google UX course. I was inspired to create a dog adoption app as I saw a gap in the market as I looked to adopt a dog.

Problem

I am creating a dog adoption app and website to fill the gap where other apps leave off. This app will bring dogs together with their perfect families. There will be expanded filters for the potential dog owners, one place to fill out an application and save it, and detailed dog profiles with videos, photos, and specifications.

Challenges

To create an app that is usable for all ages
Has multiple filters
Is easy for shelters to view applicants
Each dog has a filled out profile with images and videos
Easy for applications to view the status of their applications
Has up-to-date information on each dog

Competitive Analysis

The three main pet adoption applications and websites are Petfinder, Petango, and WeRescue. Petfinder controls the majority of the market while many shelters work with Petango. Petfinder has a robust interface, tips about breeds, and includes a quiz to help you find the right dog for you. Each company lacks up-to-date profiles, detailed descriptions and requires complicated applications. These all make for a challenging experience while looking for a new dog. I have struggled to find a new dog and realized there is a gap in what is offered to potential dog owners.

Solution

To create an app where there are:

Expanded filters for the potential dog owners
One place to fill out an application and save it
Detailed dog profiles with videos, photos and specification
Updated application status
Messaging between potential owner and shelter
Updated dog profiles, no more old profiles
Videos calls with dog before meeting

Create an eye-catching design that is easy to use regardless of age. Quizzes to help match the user with the best dog for their lifestyle. Directory of local dog trainers to help owners bond and teach their new pet.

Goal Statement

Our Dog Application will let users search for their dream dog by using expanded filters and application settings/statuses which will save them time and match the right dog with their forever family. We will measure effectiveness by how many dogs are successfully places.
